I gave birth to baby No. 2 in January. He's pretty cute. David got a new job. He loves it! We bought our first house. It's slowly getting filled. We had a death in the family and both my parents got remarried.
More recent are some pictures (below) of our walk yesterday afternoon. It looks like we were having an enjoyable time, but photos are deceptive. It was freezing! Eli didn't want to walk, Shiloh pooped 2 miles down the trail and we forgot to bring a clean diaper. While David climbed a series of ladders up a cliff to see some ancient Indian ruins I started to walk back to the car in pursuit of a clean diaper. The baby was screaming and arching his back making him almost impossible to carry, and the toddler dragged his feet refusing to shuffle along faster than a slug. Exasperated, I tried pulling Eli along as best I could, while simultaneously wrestling the epic shrieker. When David caught back up to us I handed him Shiloh, picked up Eli and we speed walked back to the parking lot. Today, as souvenirs, we have some lovely photos and a baby with one angry rash.
Not everything was so terrible. The first half of our walk was quite nice, but the second half was dramatic enough to thoroughly overshadow it. My husband and I discussed our "adventure" and despite the struggles that children inevitably bring, we determined that we have to get out of the house and make memories without fear of failure. Some days are better than others, but in hindsight everything takes on a rose colored hue. Even the pitiful and tragic seem to transform into the comedic and endearing.
Here's to a more pleasant experience on our next excursion with the boys!

I was just thinking today how I never do anything with the kids because it's such a huge pain and almost always isn't worth the trouble (to me). But *sigh!* I'm trying to get over it so they can have fun memories.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about the rash. Those are so sad.
I want wedding pictures.
It's really hard, Anna! We mostly just go for walks, because anything too ambitious sets us up for getting overwhelmed and grumpy, ha. A plus is they can't break anything in the forest!
