Livin' on Tulsa time...

I think Saturdays are my favorite day of the week. David doesn't have work and there's always things to go see. I love how slow our pace of life has become. Summer always has a way of seeming magical.

I've been on the hunt for the perfect dresser, which I'm learning is an absolute impossibility. Size requirements alone disqualify most all, but then add style and it's a pain. I foresee some settling on my part, but for the moment I'm still holding out on my mid-century modern dreams. I do enjoy looking at the antique shows and flea markets, which seems to be a huge thing around here. Besides checking out the furniture, I especially like browsing the old brooches and lockets.

We went to my first horse races! They're not as trendy as in My Fair Lady, though. It's mostly families BBQing and old men chain smoking and clutching their ticket stubs and race schedules trying to make a quick buck. It totally dashed my dreams of wearing a big, fancy hat and talking all sophisticated, while observing the races through little brass binoculars. I was surprised that the jockeys were actually the size of children. Many hardly reached my chin. I wonder where they find that many short, thin men?
I've never seen one before.

We also went to a gallery opening in the down town. The city has been renovating old 1940's warehouses to use for museums, art galleries, shops, lofts and they have the most lovely architectural details. It always makes me happy when old neighborhoods aren't torn down and replaced with modern buildings. There's something so important about keeping history alive.
