This weekend David and I went to a local rodeo. David has never been and he really wanted to experience a little Americana. It wasn't sophisticated or fancy. It had a down to earth, unapologetic, God and country kind of feel and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Neither of us could determine what gave people points, but it was fun seeing how long it took the cowboys to either stay on or capture their animals. After, they had a barn dance with a live band.
Our friends, who have grown up in Oklahoma, think it's really funny how enthusiastic we get about experiencing the local "entertainments." My defense is that it's all still so new for us. I think when people have lived here their whole lives here they either love it or they want out. It's always a surprise to them that we don't want to move back to England. (I have to mention that David is quite the exotic round these parts, ha.) I just tell them we'll go where ever the wind blows us and if along the way we pick up a little country then there's no shame in that.

I'm dying to get to a rodeo or a demolition derby!! They are in short supply over here. I really enjoy that kind of entertainment. (red-neck!)
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine the kind of comments David must get living over there. It's making me laugh just thinking about it. You and your fancy husband :)
